-----------------------------------------
We are excited to bring you this update about Version 7. All of the latest information that is available will be posted here until it’s release.
Version 7 is in development now. There are plans to add many requested features including (but not limited to):
- True, individual user accounts (groups, moderators, administrators, and more)
- Redesigned and simplified Event Manager
- New template system allowing virtually limitless control over the layout
- New, easy version update system
- Integrated backup and restore system
- Import and export system
- Email notifications
- And more (details provided when available)!
A few of these features will be in the first release, while others will be added in future releases.
08-19-07 UPDATE: We are most concerned with the new user system for Version 7 (since this is what is being requested the most). Some of the other planned features may not make it into the initial Version 7 release, but they should be available as a free upgrade as they are available in future updates to Version 7.
11-07-07 UPDATE: As many of you now know, I've had eye issues that required surgery (http://www.easyphpcalendar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7143). Some days are better than others, but overall my vision is much better now. However, they're not quite right just yet.
11-27-07 UPDATE: The eye issues are still getter better and better. But the bad news is it was determined that the problem I have is caused by a sinus disease that can't be cured. Right now the best they can do is a sinus operation to try to compensate for my issue. We're looking around the beginning of the year to have the procedure.
02-05-08 UPDATE: I literally just stepped back in from visiting the allergist. Didn't get good news and surgery will be required. It's set for March 3. He said I would not feel very well for about two weeks, but there's a 90% chance of success. However, success means less frequent and severe infections, but not eliminating them completely. Overall, it should improve my qualify of life by not having to deal with constant sinus issues.
03-25-08 UPDATE: Recovery from surgery is going well. I won't know how well for a few more weeks. Then I have to go back to the eye surgeon at the end of April for exhaustive tests to see what needs to be done to correct my vision again. They think only one eye will need to be operated on this time. Let's hope it's none and everything starts to correct itself.
04-25-08 UPDATE: Bad news... the sinus infection had a large negative affect on my eye muscles. Before the first surgery my eyes were out 40 and the surgery aligned them to almost 0. Now they are back out to 30 which has made working on computers (and programming) very difficult again. I've been scheduled for eye surgery again at the end of May to hopefully correct this issue once and for all.
07-13-08 UPDATE: Since my last update, I've had a more intensive eye surgery that has corrected my vision issues. The eye doctor last week said they have never been more aligned (good news!). But, I still have sinus issues, that has now turned into allergy issues. I started seeing a specialist about a month ago and have undergone several dozen allergy prick tests and deep skin needle tests and it was determined that I need two weekly allergy shots for at least a year.! I will need to drive over an hour one way to get to the allergist, so I've lost at least one day a week for a year. After a year, I may be able to go to every-other-week... for four or five more years!. But, it should fix all my sinus issues when the shots fully kick in (I'm on very low dosage now) and leave my eyes alone.
09-03-08 UPDATE: Went to the eye surgeon a few days ago. She said the muscles are great and she doesn't want to see me again for a year!. Yesterday my sinus surgeon said everything looked great and in about 6 months everything should be normal. However, I've been having eye strain again when working at the computer. Come to find out, I'm just getting old and need bi-focals or a pair of computer glasses. I think I'm going with a separate set of glasses just to work with. It'll probably take a few weeks for me to get an appt. get a prescription and have it filled.
08-11-09 UPDATE: I want to start working on Version 7 again, but I have a back-log of other projects going on that's keeping me from starting right now.
07-22-10 UPDATE: I have starting working towards Version 7 again! Today, I finished up some code for a new Version 6.4.0 which fixes a couple of compatibility issues and adds a new (much requested) feature of category sorting! The bad news is that a lot has changed with Version 6 since Version 7 was last worked on. So, I'll basically be starting on Version 7 all over again to make sure all the changes, fixes and features you already have are in Version 7.
What is Version 7 going to cost? We don’t know right now, but we are doing everything we can to make sure the price-point is very reasonable as it is now. There will be a cost to upgrade to Version 7. Tentatively, it will cost around $10 for the upgrade for previously licensed users of Version 6.
When will it be released? We don’t know right now. (See above comments.)
NOTE: One major change to Version 7 is that a flat-file database will no longer be supported. It will be SQL based only. The additional advanced features of Version 7 made this change necessary.
